Liberal National Club (LNC)

The UQ Liberal National Club is a society for centre-right politically minded students at the University of Queensland. The UQLNC is one of Australia’s oldest and largest conservative political organisations, boasting former members that now serve at a local, state and federal level. We aim to provide a more balanced political environment at UQ, championing free speech, rule of law and traditional values in our exploits both on and off campus. The UQLNC is a dedicated campaign group for individuals who want to see their values represented in parliament by the Liberal National Party of Queensland.

Our club executives are committed to providing professional and social opportunities for members to grow intellectually, meet like-minded people and pursue a career in a political field. Through the support of external organisations, we are able to afford members the chance to travel interstate and even internationally to further broaden their political horizons and networks. These organisations include the Institute for Public Affairs, the Australian Institute for Progress, CPAC Australia, the Thomas More Centre and the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance just to name a few.

The UQLNC is also able to connect students with unparalleled access to LNP politicians, who are setting the tone for political debate in Australia and regularly find themselves fighting for our values on a national stage. Furthermore, the UQLNC is a force during student elections, nurturing candidates who might seek public office on campus via student elections.

Among the political clubs at the University of Queensland, we are the sole representatives of centre-right voices on campus to combat other groups such as Labor, the Greens and Socialist Alternative. Whilst we act as a rival to these groups at election time, we also hope to work productively with these outfits to encourage more lively and spirited debate, something that has gone by the wayside with the growth of cancel culture and political correctness.

Club membership is just $5 and open to all current students, but also members of the broader community. If any of this appeals to you, join the UQLNC today to play your part in shaping the political trajectory of our vital institutions.
