UQ Mahjong Society (UQMS)

The University of Queensland Mahjong Society (UQMS) is a non-profit student society based at the UQ St. Lucia campus.

Mahjong is a traditional Chinese tile-based game that has gained popularity around the world through shows such as Crazy Rich Asians. It is a game of skill, strategy, and chance, often played by four players. The game is deeply rooted in Chinese culture and history, with a rich tradition that extends back centuries. Mahjong is more than just a game; it’s a holistic activity that provides mental stimulation, social interaction, and a sense of accomplishment. Its myriad benefits make it a popular pastime enjoyed by people of all ages, from casual players seeking entertainment to those looking to enhance their cognitive abilities and enjoy meaningful social connections.

UQMS strives to create a community of Mahjong players from different countries, cultures and backgrounds who come together to socialize, network, make new friends, learn from one another and more importantly have fun!

UQMS seek to promote and preserve the game of Mahjong and its cultural significance by educating others about its history and traditions.

UQMS aims to provide a space for like-minded people where players of all skill levels can improve their Mahjong skills through friendly competition, training workshops and tournaments.

All students and non-students are welcome to join us! Be part of the UQ Mahjong Society to enjoy members-only event pricing, discounts across Brisbane and exclusive entry to mahjong tournaments.
