Queensland University Games Society (QUGS)

The members of the Queensland University Games Society enjoy playing a broad range of game genres including abstract strategy, bluffing, cooperative, deck building, drafting, engine building, press your luck, role-playing, set collection, worker placement, and many more. A full list of the 60+ games the society owns can be found on our website at qugs.org.au/collection.

Membership costs $5.00 for the year and being a student is not required. Everybody from complete novices to hard-core tabletop gamers are welcome. We also have a partnership with several gaming shops around Brisbane, who give our members deals and discounts.

QUGS meets on Mondays, starting at 5:00pm for board games. In addition, we meet at 6:30pm on Thursdays for a Magic: The Gathering draft. Full details can be found on our website. Barring exams, Christmas or natural disaster, QUGS meetings are always on.

Additionally, QUGS hosts a Semi-Annual Twilight Imperium Championship on a public holiday each semester. The winner receives a trophy to keep until the next Championship, and gets immortalised on the QUGS website.

If you are wanting to contact the society’s president, please email [email protected].

Our board games events run Monday nights from 5:00pm to 9:00pm most weeks (including UQ holidays). If you turn up within the first hour or two, you should have time to play at least one game.
Our Magic: The Gathering draft events run Thursday nights from 6:30pm!

Our boards game events tend to be in the Heath Room during the semester, and in the Kingham Room during holidays (both in the UQU Complex), however, this can change due to exams, other bookings etc. Up to date venues can be found on the calendar on the QUGS website, on the Facebook events, or in the weekly members’ emails.
Our Magic: The Gathering draft events tend to be in the Kingham Room.

Membership is $5. This allows you to attend any and all board game event on Monday nights. These events also occasionally have free pizza for QUGS members. You will also get a QUGS membership card, which provides discounts to various gaming retails around Brisbane.
The Magic: The Gathering draft requires three booster packs per player, usually of the current set. These can be purchased for $5 each on the night, or you can provide your own. You will, however, get to keep all cards you draft on the night. QUGS provides basic lands.
