UQ French Society

The University of Queensland French Society is a student society at UQ dedicated to helping and encouraging students engage and connect with the French language and culture. The society also seeks to provide support for current French language students to get the most out of their French experience. This society is open to anyone at UQ with an interest in French culture, history or cuisine. Even if you don’t speak any French we would still love to have you as a member! Follow our Facebook page for information about upcoming events, film screenings, French conversation groups and much more!

While UQFS events are especially relevant to current French language students at UQ, or francophone international students and students on exchange, everyone is welcome to join and enjoy our events – regardless of whether they are a UQ student and regardless of their French proficiency. As long as you have some interest in or connection to French, we’d love to have you as a member!

UQFS aims to run diverse events catering to the cultural, social, educational, and professional interests of our members. These include conversation groups, picnics, parties, networking, film screenings, cultural excursions, and more.

For detailed information about our past and future events, please refer to our QPAY or Instagram pages.

Quoi de Neuf (or QDN for short) is our regular conversation group where people ranging from no knowledge of French to native speakers can enjoy a relaxed social atmosphere to chat for an hour in French and English, with free coffee provided to our paying Members where possible. The time and place are up to the discretion of the current Education Officer/s, who will run the weekly sessions each semester.

Another goal of UQFS this year is to highlight and promote relevant opportunities of cultural, social, educational, and professional interest to members, through our social media and mailing list. Whether these are at UQ or through our external partners, UQFS wants to ensure that students have an easy point of access to the francophone network on campus and in greater Brisbane

Oui, bien sûr ! UQFS absolutely welcomes French speaking students from overseas. We’re here to help if you’re new to studying here, whether with English practice at QDN, being there to give advice or direction about life at UQ/studying in Australia, providing connections with other students, facilitating cross-cultural experiences, offering suggestions for local cuisine or entertainment, and more.
