Plastic Straws Suck

UQU has been providing food & beverage offerings to UQ students and staff for over 80 years. Over the years, our operations have grown and so has our commitment to operating a sustainable and ethical business.

As the largest food & beverage provider at the University of Queensland, we are committed to:

  • Reducing plastic footprint on campus.
  • Introducing environmentally friendly single-use packaging at new UQU owned and operated outlets going forward.
  • Encouraging the use of reusable coffee cups, straws and cutlery.
  • Strive to use ingredients that are in season, organic, locally sourced and grown and sustainably farmed where possible.

We are committed to reducing and eventually ceasing the use of single-use plastics at our existing UQU owned and operated outlets.

A significant step we have made recently is the removal of single use, plastic straws from all of our outlets. This came into effect this month at On A Roll BakeryDarwin’sPizza CaffeREDROOMMain Course and Lolly Shop.

As part of this transition to sustainable options, reusable stainless steel straw packs are now available for sale at all UQU outlets. For just $7.90 you get 2 straws plus a handy cleaning brush and UQU Mates Rates members get 10% off!

Note: plastic straws are available upon request to customers that require a straw.
