What are you most looking forward to about your involvement in the Union in 2024?

I’m most excited about continuing to engage students with climate activism and talk to them about left-wing politics!

What are your priorities, key focuses and/or commitments in 2024?

I want to see the union use its massive resources to involve students to standing up for themselves and social issues. There’s a lot of issues facing students right now, from cost-of-living to climate disasters. I want to organise activism around these questions and help students learn about these problems.

What do you believe are the biggest or most pressing challenges facing students today?

I think it’s harder to be student now more than ever. There’s a massive cost-of-living crisis, super hard to find affordable rentals, the climate crisis, and our universities increasingly being run for profit. While there’s a lot of issues facing students, we can fight back, and I want use my position to get students out into the streets demanding more.

How would you like to support, represent, and/or entertain students?

Again, I think it’s important to be an activist! We wanna meet, talk to and organise left-wing students who are tired of the status quo and want to fight back – whether that’s about the environment, racism, social justice, you name it!

What’s been a highlight or favourite moment or event from your time at university or with UQU?

My biggest highlight from my time in the UQU is last year organising a housing rally out the front of state parliament and being joined by over 500 students and construction workers. It was a big, rowdy demo that inspired everyone who came.
