Why You Should Attend UQU’s O-Week

And just like that, 2020 is (finally!) over and uni is almost back in session. We’re also back at it and kicking off 2021 with a huge lineup of events to welcome you back to uni. Here’s why you should attend UQU’s O-Week!

Whether you’re a first year student who’s never been to orientation before, or a returning student, we think that hitting up UQU’s O-Week is a pretty solid idea. First of all, it’s a good time to get familiar with the campus and get the lay of the land. On top of practical things like that, your UQ Union has heaps of awesome events and activities planned for you to enjoy.

If you only go to one event at O-Week, it should be Market Day. This is the BIG ONE. Market Day is your opportunity to check out the Clubs and Societies you might want to join. Who knows. These people might become your ride or die uni crew for the next three years!

Of course, Market Day is also about the free stuff. And I mean, a lot of free stuff. I’m talking more stationery, food, energy drinks and merch than you can carry! Plus, join UQU Rewards and chill out with games, live entertainment and performances from clubs, societies and colleges. We’re holding Market Day at St Lucia on the 17th and at Gatton on the 23rd.

What better way to get ready for week one than with a complete blow out? If you’re keen to say farewell to the summer holidays in style, then you won’t want to miss the UQU Neon Party on the 19th. Our annual O-Week Great Court Party always goes off with bang, and this year will be no different. Snap up your ticket today before they sell out!

If a chill movie session is more your speed, then make sure you grab a ticket to our Pizza and Movie Night on the 18th. We’ll be screening High Ground at the Schonell Theatre. Check out the trailer below! $5 gets you into the movie plus a few slices of pizza afterwards, from the beloved Pizza Caffe. Grab your ticket today!

Is one of your goals this year to make some new friends? We can help! We’ll be running the ever-popular Speed Friending sessions in both O-Week and Week One. Who knows; you might even end up meeting your future bestie! Check out the full details here for both the in-person and online sessions.

Hopefully now you’ve got a bit of a better idea about all the fun in store and why you should attend UQU’s O-Week. We hope to see you there!

Please note: You’ll be used to it by now, I’m sure, but all of our in-person events will be held within COVID-19 guidelines. You can read more about this on the individual event listings.
