An Open Letter Regarding Black Lives Matter from UQ Union Council

The University of Queensland Union community has been devastated by the recent passing of Wilson Gavin, and deeply distressed by the events that preceded it.

We acknowledge that events such as these can be deeply troubling to many people, and that it is natural to seek answers and clarity while grieving. We ask the community to bear in mind our core values of respect and compassion throughout this difficult time.

We are doing our best to address the impact on our students and staff, and our focus is providing support for those who have been affected.

Our thoughts are with Wilson’s family, his friends and his colleagues.
